Cheyanne Mumphrey is a multimedia journalist at The Associated Press’ west region bureau based in Phoenix.
Cheyanne works to tell stories that connect people, cultures and lifestyles and aims to inform and develop readers into active members in their communities. Cheyanne excels in storytelling with various digital platforms. For seven years, she has aimed to tell stories that bring people together.
Her work has been featured in The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times and The Philadelphia Inquirer. She previously worked for Hawaii News News and got her start at Northern Arizona University working for The Lumberjack newspaper, NAZToday, KJACK Radio and the athletics department. She was the first student at the university to receive an internship through the Dow Jones News Fund.
Cheyanne graduated from Northern Arizona with a master’s degree in Communication Studies and a bachelor's degree in Journalism. She was a Division I student-athlete and was on the 2014 Big Sky Conference championship women’s soccer team. She was promoted from intern to media relations graduate assistant to social media coordinator in the athletics department. Cheyanne created the digital media department in athletics in 2018.
